Why does God work through Covenants?
In this first episode of Mountains & Mediators, Dr. John Bergsma defines what a covenant is and explains its significance regarding our relationship with God. Throughout Salvation History, God has made various covenants with humanity that are divided up between the Old and New Covenants. Dr. Bergsma explains that the Old Covenants were temporary and have been fulfilled and completed through the New and eternal Covenant established by Christ.
The intention of these covenants is to help reconcile man back to God, who we view as a Father. This belief is unique as no other world religion shares this same belief of God.

    Interesting lecture. One question. What if we are God's children by nature and only left the family (Prodigal Son) when we rejected God's fatherhood in the Garden (original sin) and covenant is like the father of the prodigal son, a kinship already and eternally there to be accepted? I think this understanding is in accord with the Franciscan tradition that kept me Catholic even in the darkest of nights of my soul. We did not change our nature, but God offered us kinship, fatherhood, and we reject that reality fighting against our own nature.

      You should Thank our Lord for the Protestants. I wonder if you know what they protested about. I am shocked at the ignorance of some of our very narrow minded RC community. Please wake up. I grew up without any knowledge of Scripture as the whole Mass was in Latin. And, the Priests always was with his back to us. Yes, ignorance of Scripture is certainly ignorance of Christ. We owe a debt of love to Martin Luther, and others who challenged us to meeting the Lord through His written Word to the Very Incarnate Word of God.

      Reading and Meditating on the Gospel of John and starting from Genesis to Revelations, there is no turning back on our Lord of Creation. We do not own Him He Owns us. That is why, we are told, " you for not belong to your self, but you belong to the Lord, as he has redeemed you with the Precious Blood of Jesus Christ " which, With the Blood He Shed Once, and for all. And it is not to sit with smugness to be critical of other but to serve mankind, as the Body of Christ. And we need to be discipled by Christ and not be RC as a label. With the Gaza episode we ourselves are crucified Christ. Remember Saul now Paul was asked by Jesus Christ, " Saul, Saul why are you crucified Me" Hagar chased away by Sarah, was ministered to by our Lord by nourishing her son Ishmael with water. On two occasions. And the tragedy, we have killed and maimed in the Name of our Lord, instead of reaching out with Love and Reconciliation to our neighbour.

      @@shriyanidemel9401 how ironic your words are to those who really understand scripture. That you do not see the contradiction of protestants to the gospel is the very crux of the issue You are right about one thing, it’s belonging to him. But most importantly doing it God’s way and not your own way. You don’t get to pick and choose. Jesus laid it all out along with the covenants and he started one church, the one the apostles continued to build in Acts … an actual physical church.

      Christ came and established new covenants. He also fulfilled the old and taught the errors of the Jews in interpreting his fathers prophets message. So course correction is required to listen to what God himself taught through the person of Jesus. And historically Jews who lost their way were cut off by God. Especially when they were overly stubborn to his teachings

    That happened to me walking my dog at a park. I was extremely depressed. I remember i said in my head, “How much longer do I have to live, why can’t I be with you, I want to be with God.” Instantly, I felt mini swirling tornado like wind surrounding my heart. I felt hands poking around in different places around my heart as if the physics of my body wasn’t there. I then felt water shooting out of my heart like a high pressure fire hose. It kept pouring and pouring out of my heart, but into another place not of this world. So much water was pouring and pouring out of my eyes but they weren’t tears. Suddenly, then felt individual fingers touching my heart and then they pressed it. It felt like my heart was being hugged, and I never felt so much bliss in my life. This whole event was about a minute long. All my hate, resentment, bitterness just gone. All the things I always wanted answered from people who did me wrong, I just no longer cared. Just forgive everyone. That night in my bedroom all the lights were off. My room lit blue. I don’t know where the light was coming from, but it felt so safe. In this dark corner of the room I saw a shadow like figure of a man standing and staring at me. I knew right away that was what has been haunting me for years. The blue light felt like I was protected by a huge army. Eight months later I was listening to the gospel of John and that is when I heard: Jesus stood up on the last day of the feast and said. If anyone thirsts let him come to me and drink, for out of his heart shall flow rivers of living water. My jaw dropped. I couldn’t believe what I just heard. I asked so many people. I tried researching it. But nothing was explained about water rushing out of one heart. For about 2 weeks from when this event happened at the park my heart was literally on fire like the pictures of Jesus heart on fire. It felt amazing though, like a cold shower pouring on your chest. But tolerable. This is only a small portion of what happened, but I will tell you God is very real. God Bless!

    • @StPaulCenter
      @StPaulCenter День тому

      Hi Leon! I think that your example in their life and how you live and speak of Jesus can influence how they understand Him. If you live a life that shows and speaks of Jesus in a way in which it shows that you believe Him to be real, then kids will pick that up. As they grow up, you can further catechize them about Christ and the Bible. I also encourage you to listen to the episode of our podcast series, Drawing Flame, on the Eucharistic Pilgrimage with Kris Frank. I think they provide a lot of helpful suggestions for teaching kids about the faith around the one hour mark. Hope this helps!

    People are human, and the human element can sometimes be argh.. longsuffering, patience, and love are key. We all believe something and are all tested in some way, shape, or form. There are satanist who operate in very occultic ways of evil. So there are good verses bad and other realms! Spiritual occurences happen. Unless you have experienced evil spirit's, you don't really know. We are all humans and the human frailty hits us all. It's part of growth and charachter. The priest handled this interview well, it's okat for Patrick's team to view things from different angles! We're all human and growing in truth and charachter. Have a great day my friend's! Protestant Bibles typically include 39 books of the Old Testament, based on the Hebrew Bible canon. However, in the 16th century, Protestant Reformers removed some books from the Old Testament that they considered incompatible with their theology. These books were labeled "Apocrypha" and were not considered Holy Scripture.
